Outdoor adventures

Bairnsdale is the gateway to the world famous Gippsland Lakes - Paynesville, Metung, Lakes Entrance and Marlo are great places to visit and just a short drive away from your home on Broadlands Park.  Boating and fishing enthusiasts will find the many rivers and coastal resorts ideal, with easy access to boat ramps.  

The East Gippsland Rail Trail, just 200 metres from Broadlands Park, offers a scenic walking/cycling option right at your door.

In the winter months, Bairnsdale's location at the junction of the Great Alpine Road and the Princes Highway,  provides easy access to the alpine villages of Omeo, Dinner Plain and Mount Hotham.  

Recreation

The Bairnsdale region boasts recreation facilities to suit all needs.  With both Indoor & Outdoor swimming pools, a thriving Lawn Bowls club, a huge Table-tennis/Squash Centre, two Golf courses, river and sea fishing plus a range of social and recreation clubs, there really is something for everyone. 

The Forge Theatre and Arts Hub showcases performances to suit all tastes, from drama, comedy, music, daytime shows, dance, physical theatre and musicals, as well as locally-produced shows, Spokes tours and the CafĂ© Culture Series.  

The Bairnsdale RSL offers a range of entertainment, including performances by leading Australian artistes.

Nature and Wildlife

East Gippsland's flora and fauna is outstanding. Either explore yourself or join the local Field Naturalists and Bird Observers groups to join fellow minded enthusiasts.  The East Bairnsdale wetlands, adjacent to Broadlands Park, is developing as a home for a range of bird species.

Walking and Hiking

East Gippsland boasts rugged alpine and coastal landscapes, some of Australia's most renowned old-growth forests and the country's largest lake system.

With nine national parks, it's a bush walker's paradise and you can indulge all of your senses with fresh food, local wine, history, legends and culture.

In the High Country mountains you can create your own adventures, including forest walks, white water rafting, horse riding, mountain biking, four-wheel driving and fishing in clear mountain streams.
